What is the purpose of CCP?
Who are the people involved in this?
How do you intend to carry on with the preservation of African heritage as a project?
Well, we are going step by step. The first aspect of it is the musical instrument because we would be using a lot of musical instruments here. So we are looking at the musical instrument in the different parts of Nigeria . We are trying to document the photographs of them, make a catalogue, and explain what they are and what their origins are and so on. That is one area.
Then also we are looking at the areas of our culture and traditional history that are disappearing through lack of interest. It is our business to try and rejuvenate and create awareness.
For example, in music we look at Highlife, which has probably the strongest single thing that came out of this part of the international social music from the West Coast. Then we allowed it to die, because first of all, it was sold, then rocked and then all these young people were copying it. Now they have reached garage music or whatever they call it. So the substance of that music is something that is really valuable. I mean, if you look at the lyric of that music, social commentary, the influence that they have on custom, culture, passion and behavioral pattern and all that. You can understand what I am talking about.
Highlife had a terrific tone, which we used to recognize and use properly. But now I would like to get back, first of all document each of these tones from the beginning to what it was, what it isn't, where it got to and then look at what it can be if we allow it to grow; That's another project, which we would be working on.
